ChromaChecker Instruments Bridge — browser extension and its helper
Effective 24 September 2026 · ChromaChecker Corporation

The short version. The Bridge collects nothing, sends nothing and keeps nothing. Your measurements stay on your computer: the page asks the extension, the extension asks its helper, the helper asks the instrument, and the numbers come back the same way. There is no account, no analytics and no server involved at any point.

What the Bridge is

A browser cannot talk to a USB measuring instrument. The Bridge is what lets a licensed web page do it anyway: an extension in Chrome, Edge or Brave, and a helper installed on your own computer that speaks to the instrument through its manufacturer's SDK. It supports the X-Rite i1Display and i1Pro 2/3, the Calibrite ColorChecker Studio and the Konica Minolta MYIRO-1, for display, print and viewing-light readings.

What the extension reads

From the pageOne element: the license <meta name="cc-bridge-token"> that says the site is allowed to use the Bridge. Nothing else on the page is read, stored or transmitted.
From youNothing. No name, no e-mail, no account, no identifier of any kind is asked for or created.
About your browsingNothing. The extension runs only on pages whose address is listed in its manifest, and only relays measurement requests those pages make. It does not observe navigation, history or page content.

What the helper does and does not do

Talks toThe instrument over USB, and the browser through Chrome's native messaging channel. Nothing else.
NetworkNone. On macOS the installed helper is not granted the network entitlement at all, so it cannot reach the internet even in error.
FilesNone. It keeps no history, no cache and no settings; its diagnostic output goes to the browser's standard error and is discarded.
MeasurementsExist in the page that asked for them, for as long as that page is open. The helper does not retain them.

Permissions, and why each is needed

nativeMessagingTo start and speak to the helper. This is the only way a browser extension can reach hardware that needs a manufacturer's SDK.
Access to specific sitesThe extension runs only on the addresses named in its manifest, and even there it does nothing until the page presents a valid ChromaChecker license.

There is no remote code, no third-party analytics library and no advertising component in either half.

Personal data

The Bridge processes no personal data. A measurement is a physical property of a surface or a screen — a spectrum, a color, a light level — not information about a person. Because nothing is transmitted, there is no recipient, no transfer and nothing to retain or delete.

Your instrument's serial number is read from the instrument and shown to the page that asked, so an operator can tell which device produced a reading. It is handled exactly like the readings: it stays on your computer.

Removing it

The extension is removed from the browser's extensions page. The helper is removed with Uninstall ChromaChecker Bridge.command in ~/Library/Application Support/ChromaChecker/InstrumentsBridge on macOS, or through Settings → Apps on Windows. Nothing is left behind: no service, no login item, and your instrument's own drivers are untouched.

Changes and contact

If this policy changes, the new version appears here with a new effective date. Questions about it, or about what the Bridge does with anything: chromachecker.com.
